Cameron Green became the most expensive overseas player in the history of the Indian Premier League, as the Kolkata Knight Riders secured the Australian all-rounder for ₹25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
All ten IPL franchises collectively spent ₹237.55 crore during the auction. The base price for players ranged from a minimum of ₹30 lakh to a maximum of ₹2 crore.
However, in accordance with the revised IPL auction regulations, Green’s contract value will be capped at ₹18 crore, with the excess amount being credited to the BCCI’s welfare fund.
Previously, the record for the highest-priced overseas player was held by Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹24.75 crore ahead of the IPL 2024 season.
