  • Milkha Singh declined to take the “Arjuna Award” in 2001, saying it came “40 years too late.”
  • Milkha Singh joined Indian Army as a technical jawan. His first salary was only Rs 39 and 8 anna.
  • Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru has announced a national holiday to celebrate “Flying Sikh” when Milkha Singh requested the Prime Minister for a national holiday after he won gold in the 1958 Commonwealth games.
  • Milkha Singh donated all his medals back to the nation. All medals are kept at the sports museum in Patiala for the public to see.
  • In 1999, Milkha adopted the 7-year-old son of Martyr Bikram Singh who fought in the Kargil War.
  • मिल्खा सिंह ने 2001 में “अर्जुन पुरस्कार” लेने से इनकार करते हुए कहा कि यह “40 साल बहुत देर हो चुकी है।”
  • मिल्खा सिंह एक तकनीकी जवान के रूप में भारतीय सेना में शामिल हुए। उनकी पहली तनख्वाह मात्र 39 और 8 आना थी।
  • भारत के प्रधान मंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने “फ्लाइंग सिख” को मनाने के लिए राष्ट्रीय अवकाश की घोषणा की है, जब मिल्खा सिंह ने 1958 के राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में स्वर्ण जीतने के बाद प्रधान मंत्री से राष्ट्रीय अवकाश के लिए अनुरोध किया था।
  • मिल्खा सिंह ने अपने सभी पदक राष्ट्र को वापस दान कर दिए। सभी पदक जनता के देखने के लिए पटियाला के खेल संग्रहालय में रखे जाते हैं।
  • 1999 में, मिल्खा ने कारगिल युद्ध में लड़ने वाले शहीद बिक्रम सिंह के 7 वर्षीय बेटे को गोद लिया था।
